Fire Power, Stiff Arms, and Grit – Week One Baton Rouge GOW – Episcopal Knights vs Country Day

#21 Ryan Armwood #31 Oliver Jack #10 Peyton Pontif

Ryan Armwood , Senior ATH for the Episcopal Knights, ran for 140 yards on 16 carries, he played both sides of the football and he scored three of the Knights’ four first-half touchdowns.  What more can you say?  Talented, quick, and tough.  Armwood put an exclamation mark on the start of his 2020 Season.

#7 Senior QB Dylan Mehrotra (UAB Commit)

As the season was coming together there was no doubt that the Episcopal Knights and Head Coach Travis Bourgeois was assembling a very talented team that would leave a mark in Class 2A.  Names like UAB commit and senior quarterback Dylan Mehrotra and Davidson College commit Austin Sybrandt, to name a few, were just waiting until they had the green light for the start of the 2020 high school season. They could not wait to show everyone just what the Knights were made of.  To pick just one or two outstanding players would not be fair because this was a total team effort in every aspect of the game by the Episcopal Knights.

Episcopal Knights Hudl Link

Thursday night the Knights put on an offensive game that showed they mean business and are poised to make a run for a state title this season.  The Knights scored three touchdowns in a span of 8:35 in the first quarter to take control. Mehrotra completed 12 of 16 passes for 97 yards and four TDs.  Ryan Armwood Ryan accounted for 140 Yds Rushing (37 yd run, 24 yd run) on 16 carries, 40 Yards Rec, and 4 TD’s in Episcopal’s 41-7 win over Country Day Thursday night.

Defensively, the Knights have talent on both the defensive line and in the secondary.  Stingy, aggressive and lockdown would be words to describe the Knights defense.  Led by Senior Defensive End Austin Sybrandt and Defensive End/OLB Peyton Pontif the Knights are aggressive to the ball and a hard hitting defensive team.

Let’s not forget one of the most important parts of any football game, special teams.  Senior kicker Parker Sanchez was on point and lethal with is kicks.  Sanchez’ strong leg resulted in three touchbacks that gave Country Day very little ability to return his kicks for extra yards and the ability to establish a short field for their offense to work with.

Other Players who had an outstanding game:

Senior DB/ATH #31 – Oliver Jack who plays both sides of the ball for the Knights, Good size, athletic build, and powerful runner at the Fullback position.

Junior WR/SB (ATH) #2 Thomas D’Armond, D’Armond will line up in multiple positions on the offensive side of the ball. He also plays special teams.  Quick first step, fluid getting in and out of breaks, exciting with the ball (fast feet, good balance, and quick moves), avoids would-be tacklers, exceptional focus and field vision to find open run lanes.  He is a playmaker that excels at YAC.  Don’t lose him on the field because he will burn you for maximum yardage.

Country Day’s Outstanding Players of the Game:

2022 FB/OLB 6’3″ 245 Scott Isacks A bruiser fullback that is built like a brick wall. Will line up in the slot, full back, also plays on the defensive side of the ball. Bull with the ball on run plays, plays hard and very physical on defense.

2021 WR Dylan Simmons

2024 QB Dawson Simmons rotated at quarterback during the game, good arm, plays hard every play, no fear on the field

2023 DE 6’1″ 175 Colins Cummings – room to grow and fill in, relentless on pursuit, solid tackler and a nose for the ball.  He was around the ball all night looking to make the stop. High motor and plays smart.
