Battle Of The David’s vs The Goliath’s – Battle Of Two State Champions

When you talk about Lafayette Christian Academy and the Acadiana Wreckin’ Rams from Lafayette you automatically think of championships.  Both are power house programs at their respective state classifications.

The matchup between these two teams was to be one of the top games for week one in Louisiana and it didn’t disappoint.  Don’t let the finally score fool you this was a head to head defensive matchup that stayed tight until the later part of the 4th quarter.

LCA may be a smaller school in attendance but they are far from smaller when it comes to talent on the playing field.  Stacked with talented student athletes, led by Senior Sage Ryan, the Knights are looking to defend their State Championship in 2020.

Acadiana, in their own right, is stacked with talented players as well, led by Louisiana Commit and Senior Defensive End/OLB Cameron George.  The Rams are looking to make a run to defend their 5A State Championship from a year ago.

There wasn’t much offense, but there was plenty of speed and physical defense to keep everyone on the edge of their seats the entire game. Acadiana held the Knights to negative yards on 10 plays while intercepting the Knights quarterbacks four times during the game.

LCA’s defense made key adjustments during the 1st half that stymied the Wreckin’ Rams potent Veer offense.

The Knight’s lost starting quarterback Ryan Roberts in the first half due to injury.  With the next man up mentality, freshman quarterback JuJuan Johnson jumped into the ring.  Johnson did not disappoint when he was thrown into action.

The young freshman seemed to have some timing issues with his receivers but he showed a strong arm and a kin sense of awareness of the field and defenders to smoothly roll out of the pocket when under pressure to deliver a strong throw.

Johnson has great upsides and is going to be one to keep an eye on as he develops into a potential top quarterback for the Class of 2024.

The game was dominated by two defenses that would not budge all game until the Rams (leading 7-0) scored two touchdowns in the final 51 seconds of the game that propelled them to a 21-0 win.

Acadiana’s first score came on an 11-play, 40-yard drive in 6:17 on a 6-yard run by Tyvin Zeno with 2:04 left in the opening period making it 7-0.

Acadiana’s biggest offensive playmaker of the night, sophomore running back Keven Williams who tallied up 110 yards on 8 carries including big runs of 36 and 48 yards in the first half.

Defensively for the Wreckin’ Rams Kennedy Pierre had a big night along with Caleb Arceneaux and defensive end Cam George. The Rams also snagged four interceptions on the night (Caleb Arceneaux, Kennedy Pierre, and two by junior Drailun Anthony)

Defensively for the Knights, Tyrrell Lockett was a monster on the defensive line.  Also leading the charge defensively for the Knights, junior free safety Brylan Green, junior transfer and linebacker Masey Lewis (formerly from East Ascension), senior defensive end Sean Ned, and senior corner Anthony Richard who snagged himself an interception to end the first half.
