Zachary Broncos host Warren Easton for Homecoming
It was the perfect Friday night at The Bronco Corral as the Zachary Broncos hosted the Warren Easton Eagles for Homecoming.
Warren Easton would find the endzone first at the 8:08 mark of the first quarter when quarterback Anthony Perkins Jr. would find Malcolm Patton. This would set the pace for a high scoring game and timely defensive stops by both teams.
The Broncos would answer with two touchdowns in the first quarter when running back Jeremey Patton would take the handoff into the endzone (7-7) and then quarterback JaCori Platt would take the snap and dive into the endzone with 29 seconds left in the first quarter (14-7).
The Eagles would answer with 7:09 left before halftime when Anthony Perkins, Jr would find junior wide receiver Edward Johnson, on a 15 yard slant route, to tie the game up at 14.
Key turnovers would then turn the tide towards the Broncos and running back Jeremey Patton would find the endzone giving the Broncos their second lead of the game -21-14.
Starting quarterback JaCori Platt would take the direct snap off right side and suffer an ankle injury late in the second quarter. He would not return to the game. William Green would come into the game for Platt and immediately make an impact when he delivered a 2nd and 21 strike to Whitfield. Green would then find junior wide receiver Kylin Jones in the endzone to bring the score to 28-14.
Halftime Score: 28-14
The Broncos would came out of halftime firing on all cylinders. On the first offensive play Syracuse commit and senior running back Tylek Lewis (6’0″ 210) would take the handoff and split the middle of the offensive line for an 84 yard touchdown, to extend the lead to 35-14 at the 11:38 mark in the third quarter.
The Eagles would add a score in the third quarter when senior Josiah Everage would get the ball in his hands and physically run over would-be tacklers to get the ball to the red zone. Everage would then take the handoff and scamper into the endzone at the 3:39 mark of the third quarter to make the score 35-20.
Tylek Lewis would add another rushing touchdown with 55 seconds left in the third quarter.
Zachary would add one more touchdown in the fourth quarter, after a mishandled snap on an Eagle punt. Broncos special teams would down the ball at the 5 yard line. The Bronco offense would quickly find the endzone again. Jeremey Patton would take the handoff at the 5 yard line and find the endzone – 49-20 Broncos 10:25 4th quarter.
Easton’s Lavon Smith III would lead the Eagles down the first with 5 minutes left in the 4th with a 24-yard touchdown pass to bring the score to 49-28 Zachary.
Players of the Game for Zachary: The double duo running back tandem of Tylek Lewis (Syracuse Commit) and Jeremey Patton who would pressure the Eagles defense with a pounding and explosive run game.
Defensive Standouts for Warren Easton: The entire secondary, DL Kane Mitchell (2028) and DL Julez Haley (2027) would accounted for two fumble recoveries against Zachary.
