Week 5 Friday Night Lights – Denham Springs host #1 4A St. Thomas More

St. Thomas More flexed their muscles Friday night and dominated the game against Denham Springs all four quarters.  They showed why they are ranked as the #1 Team in 4A.

Most notable was the stout defense that played fast and furious as well as the quick strike offensive passing attack that the Cougars are known best for.

St. Thomas More lead 20-0 at halftime, with the final score being 35-3 when the final second ticked off the clock.  The Cougars moved to 5-0 on the season.

Denham Springs had their own sparks on offense as Jerry Horne returned to the field at quarterback, late in the first half.  Horne completed two passes to LSU Commit Dashawn McBryde to get the offense moving.

Denham Springs moved to 3-2 on the season, moving into District play next week.  The Yellowjackets totaled up 261 yards of total offense.

St. Thomas More’s three touchdown passes all came in the first half – Altmann to Sanders Foreman for an 18-yard score and then  two touchdown passes to Landon Strother.  See below:

Denham Springs2024 Maison Vorise: Vorise plays all faucets of the game for the Yellow Jackets.  He is a solid return specialist on special teams, then he will come back out as a physical defender at corner.  Vorise will also take special condiiton snaps on offense as a receiver.

Coaches Comments:

St. Thomas More coach Jim Hightower: “I think our defense came to play tonight. It wasn’t our best game offensively, we had a few drops and had to overcome some penalties. It was a bring-your-lunch-pail type game and we stuck with it.”

Denham Springs coach Brett Beard: Speaking to his team after the game reminded them that earlier in the season they would have been down 40 or 50-0 at the half but this team was getting better every game and finding their way.  It was time to get ready for District play and to have the mindset that they goal was a District Title. Jerry Horne was able to get back on the field Friday night.  He completed his first eight passes, which included two dime passes to Dashawn McBryde. Horne completed 11 of 20 passes for 189 yards, in one half of play.
