Week 4 Friday Night Lights – East Ascension host Alex Sr. High

It was the definition of a Battle Field Friday night at Spartan Stadium, as the ASH Trojans came to town to take on the Spartans from East Ascension. It took until two minutes left in the first half before either team scored.

East Ascension was the first on the board as their offense finally found a seam in the Trojan defense and completed a 29 yard pass play from Hudson Browning to Jacory Mitchell with 2:04 left in the first half.

The Trojan offense would respond and push the ball down the field, in the last two minutes, ending the drive with J.T. Lindsey taking the ball in from the three-yard line to tie the score at 7, going into halftime.

The Trojans would continue to use the ground game in the second half.  Junior running back, J.T. Lindsey, would continue to pound the Spartan defense, showing toughness and impressive ball security.

The Spartans would regained the lead at the 10:34 mark of the 3rd quarter when Brennan Thompson would grab a Hudson Browning pass and sprint 66 yards for the score to put East Ascension up 14-7.

The Spartans would add an interception when senior free safety Bryce Harkless would pick off another Ty Feaster pass, to stop a Trojan scoring threat.

The Trojans would have an interception of their own, when Jay Frazier would pick off a Hudson Browning pass, to give the ball back to the Trojan offense.

To kick off the fourth quarter, the Trojans would reach into their bag of trick plays and call a swing pass from Ty Feaster to Jimmie Duncan who would then toss it down the field to a sprinting E. J. Scott for a 70 yard pass and catch for a touchdown.  This would tie the score for the second time in the game at 14.

The Trojans and Spartans defense would again battle in the trenches making big stops for their team.  Defensive Play of the Game: East Ascension’s senior linebacker Shaquawn Isom would tackle J.T. Lindsey in the backfield inside the 5 yard line, on 4th down, to force a turnover on downs.  The Spartan offense, however, would not be able to capitalize and were forced to punt.

ASH’s junior running back would not be denied one more chance to score.  After the short punt, that gave the ball to the Trojans on the 32 yard line, Lindsey would burst through the hole on the first play from scrimmage, taking a quick right and a quick left step, to a wide open field and sprint untouched to the endzone, putting the Trojans in the lead 21-14.

The Spartans would not be able to capitalize on their last offensive possession, as the Trojan defense would clamp down and force a three and out.  The Trojan offense would go back to the run game to run out the clock from there to take home the win 21-14.

Player Of The Game:

:
Junior Running back J. T. Lindsey, Alexandria Sr. High, rushed for 169 yards on 36 carries and scored two touchdowns. Lindsey’s first touchdown came with 21 seconds left in the first half and the second one proved to be the game winner as he scampered 32 yards for the score with 5:49 left in the game.  East Ascension had a chance to tie the game but the Trojan defense made the stops when needed and gave the ball back to their offense.  Lindsey would again pound the ball down the field with his last carry being a 17 yard run for a much needed first down, with 1:35 left in the game.

From The Coaches:

“It was a very physical game. They did a great job in the box. On the big plays we gave up, we kept shooting ourselves in the foot. You can’t do that against good teams.” – East Ascension Head Coach Darnell Lee.

“When we fell behind, we didn’t get frustrated, we just said, there will be a few plays in the game that we are going to have to make to win, and we did.” – ASH Head Coach Thomas Bachman.
