Warren Easton is definitely packed with talent and that talent was all over the field Friday night as the Eagles took on the Catholic High Bears of Baton Rouge.

Defensively, the Eagles showed their speed and physicality. They gave the Bears explosive offense trouble all night.

Offensively, the Eagles senior quarterback, Greg Donaldson, led the way. Donaldson completed 13 of 24 passes for 175 yards and three touchdowns.  He also rushed for 102 yards on 11 carries. ( 2 Rushing TD – 16 and 38 yards).  The Eagles had a total of 349 rushing yards on the night.

Running back Fred Robertson, Warren Easton, added his own dynamic field presence as he rushed for 216 yards and two touchdowns, on 26 touches.

In the end, the Eagles took the win with a dominant performance and left Baton Rouge with a 49-26 victory.

Play by Play

Warren Easton took control early and lead at the half scoring on four of its first five possessions. Catholic was unable to counter the Eagles offensive attack and found themselves behind at halftime 28-6.

Explosive plays by Warren Easton in the first half included a Donaldson touchdown run that gave the Eagles a commanding lead with 2:16 left.  Easton would then kick an onside kick that they would recover.  The Eagles would quickly take the ball 46 yards for its fourth score of the first half.  Halftime score Easton 28 Catholic 6

The Bears came back out of halftime and tried to claw their way back into the game.  They would pick up two touchdowns in the third quarter. Daniel Beale would complete a much needed pass to Amari Clayton for a 58-yard touchdown.  On the next offensive drive, Beale would add another 58-yard pass and catch play to Cohen LeBlanc. That would cut into Easton’s lead 35-20 at the 8:35 mark in the third quarter.

The Bears defense looked to be finding their feet, after a fiery first half by the Eagles offense.  They were able to force a turnover on downs to give the ball back to their offense.  Catholic had a chance to pull within one score when it drove to the Easton 20, late in the third quarter, but a huge hit by the Eagles defense would force a fumble that would end the Bears drive.

The Eagles then went 82 yards in seven plays. Donaldson would find Kendell Cook streaking across the back of the endzone for an Eagle’s touchdown, 42-20 Easton

The Bears would counter with a touchdown late in the 4th quarter to try to close the gap again but it was just not enough.  Easton continued to put up big defensive plays and the offensive charge was just to much to overcome.

Another defensive stop by the Eagles, an interception that create a turnover late in the 4th quarter, would give the ball back to their offense.  The Eagles would strike one more time with 2:50 left in the game to drive the score to 49-26 Warren Easton.  That would be your final score of the game.
