Round 2 LHSAA Playoffs – Game Of The Week Catholic High Bears host Rummel Raiders

Check Out Some Game Highlights:

Two giants from the LHSAA Division 1 Select bracket met on the field Friday night at Memorial Stadium in Baton Rouge, LA.  The Catholic High Bears hosted the Rummel Raiders in the Round 2 playoff game.

It was cold outside and that seem to dictate the first half of play for both teams offensively.  The game was fast but both teams struggled to find a rhythm on the field at times.  The second half proved to be a different story for the Bears, as they would capitalize on the Raiders miscues and found a passing game that the Raiders seemed to have difficulty stopping.  One promising drive for the Raiders offense ended with a forced fumble by Catholic’s Black Hat defense with the fumble recovered by #72 Senior defensive lineman Joshua Johnson.  All three of Catholic’s touchdowns came from passes from Daniel Beale to Shelton Sampson or Daniel Harden. Harden ended his night with 16-22 in passing for 210 Yards and 3 touchdowns.

Junior running back led the rushing attack for the Bears as he accounted for 112 yards rushing on 21 carries.  Shelton Sampson added 143 yards receiving on 10 receptions and 2 TD’s.  Daniel Harden added 35 yards receiving on 2 receptions and one touchdown.

The Catholic High Bear defense was stingy and held firm, despite Rummel’s attempts to get the ball down the field on a few big plays.  But the few were not enough to overcome the physical and fast Curdog defense from smothering the Raiders offensively all night and keeping them scoreless throughout the game.   Senior defensive end, Judd Rouyea was all over the line of scrimmage to stop the Raiders running attack.   Rouyea lead the defensive attack with 8 Total Tackles (5 UA-3 A), 3 Tackles for Loss.  He is our Black Hat Defensive Player of the Game.

Offensive Player of the Game – Shelton Sampson proved he has the ability to adjust to the ball and make plays, especially when given a big cushion.  Sampson does not mind mixing it up on the field as he went about his night contributing for the Bears with two touchdowns.  There is a reason he is the all time receiving record holder for Catholic High School.

With the 24-0 win, Catholic High Bears move on to the quarterfinals and will match up with the Edna Karr Cougars at Memorial Stadium.  Game time 7:00 PM
