Game Highlight:

“Defense was lights out tonight.” Head Coach David Simoneaux stated. “We have a lot of respect for how physical they (Acadiana) are and what they do.”

Key defensive stops and a relentless pursuit to the ball by the Catholic High Bears defense kept the top rank team in 5A off balance all night.

The Acadiana Wreckin’ Rams were held to less than a total of 150 yards of total offense. Acadiana could only muster 143 yards rushing on 45 carries, no yards in the passing game and gave up two interceptions, one to Joshua Wax and the other to Josh Robertson.

“Kevin Ducote is our defensive coordinator, he is a Rockstar.  He has those guys just eating nails and playing hard, We are really excited about those guys this year,” stated HC David Simoneaux.

Key defensive plays for the Bears all night created offensive scoring opportunities for the offense. It’s about flipping the field and capitalizing on opportunities and the Bears did just that.

The fourth-down stop at the Catholic 11 yard line, along with the lights out play of Jordy Toaston in the second half kept the pressure on Acadiana.  Toaston’s sack and a fumble recovery kept the momentum for the Bears.

Defensive End/OLB, Wes Woodard lead the Bears with 10 tackles and Jermain Vessel added 7 tackles from his defensive line position.

Offensively, the Bears were lead by senior running back Corey Singleton who ran for 81 yards on 16 carries and two touchdowns. Tae Nicholas added 53 yards on 9 carries on the ground for the Bears.  Lloyd “Tre” Benson added 7 receptions for 92 yards.

Special teams played a big role as well in the win for Catholic High.  Acadiana chose not to put a returner back on a Bear’s punt and Dupre booted a punt that went 72 yards to pin the Wreckin’ Rams back within the 20 yard line.  The punt was the second longest in school history. Junior kicker Landon Carter added two field goals for 25 yards and 29 yards.

Catholic High Baton Rouge will take their 2-0 record to play their next opponent West Monroe Rebels on Friday night in West Monroe, LA
