Prep Classic – Louisiana Football State Championship Recap

December 27th, 2020: 

Many vs Kinder – Class 2A State Championship Game: Many toughness gets them by Kinder 16-13

If you like defensive ballgames this was one.  There was less then 200 yards of offense combined for both teams.  The outstanding player of the game was from the defensive side of the ball.

Standout Freshman Safety Tylen Singleton made the play of the game with an interception that he returned for a 23 yard touchdown with nine minutes left in the game putting Many up 16 to 13.

Catholic High Baton Rouge vs C.E. Byrd of Shreveport – Division I State Championship Game: The Bears bring the trophy back to Baton Rouge with a 35-12 Win over Byrd of Shreveport

This match-up was set up to be one of the top games during the 4 day Prep Classic event.

The Bears jumped out to a quick 14-0 start and never let up.  Freshman Quarterback Daniel Beale showed true grit and led the Bears offense with a 11/17 220 yards and 2 TD night.

Tre’ Benson, the Most Valuable Player of the Game for Catholic, caught 4 passes for 140 yards and two TD’s

December 28th, 2020:

Oak Grove Tigers vs Grand Lake: Class 1A State Championship Game

The number one team in the state in Division III seeking its first back to back championship in school history vs the team who overcame adversity to fight their way to the Championship Game – what a story line for a State Championship Game.

Grand Lake, from Cameron Parish, had overcome so much adversity in 2020.  The small town had fought through two devastating hurricanes, dealt with the toils of a pandemic yet never stopped working.  It was a perfect story in the making leading up to the State Championship Game.

The first half was a battle field for both defenses however the Oak Grove Tigers physical style of defensive play and pounding offense proved to much in the second half for Grand Lake.

Oak Grove took the reigns in the second half with the outstanding offensive attack led by Senior Ron Craten, who received the Most Outstanding Player Award for the game.  Craten also was the Outstanding Player of last years Championship Game.  Craten racked up 191 Yards on 30 Carries, 2 TD’s and averaged 6.4 yards per carry for the game.

Lafayette Christian vs St. Charles Catholic: Division III State Championship Game – LCA Wins fourth championship in a row. 

Lafayette Christian hoisted their fourth state championship trophy Monday night outlasting St. Charles Catholic 12-7.  Defense was the name of the game all night between the two teams.

Defensive End/OLB Masey Lewis (2022 6’4″ 240) was explosive and disruptive all night for the Knights.  Pressure was the name of the game and the Knights applied it all night and they limited St. Charles Catholic to only 131 Yards of offense for the game.

Senior quarterback Ryan Roberts connected with Caemon Scott (2 receptions for 97 yards) for a 80 yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage but scoring was rare the rest of the game. Roberts finished with 142 Yards passing.

Outstanding Player of the Game – DE/OLB 2022 Masey Lewis Lafayette Christian Academy 10 Tackles, 4 TFL, 2.5 Sacks, 2 FF, 1 FR on the night.

St. Thomas More vs De La Salle: Division II State Championship Game

Walker Howard, LSU Commit, threw for 381 yards, 4 touchdowns and an interception. LSU Signee Jack Bech caught 10 receptions for 232 Yards and 2 TD’s, a Division II Prep Classic record.

Up 35-28 with the Cavaliers knocking on the door, STM held De La Salle on fourth down, taking over on downs in the final minute.

Uncommitted De La Salle Running Back Montrell Jonhson rushed 29 times for 182 yards and 4 TD’s.

Senior wide receiver and LSU Commit, Jack Bech was named the Most Valuable Player for St Thomas More for his outstanding and record setting game performance.

December 29th 2020:

Calvary Baptist (Shreveport, LA) vs Ouachita Christian (Monroe, LA)

Records were shattered during the Division IV State Championship:

Most yards passing for a Prep Classic Game.- Landry Lyddy Calvary Baptist (total yards passing 464)

Most yards passing for a 1A/Div IV Game. – Landry Lyddy Calvary Baptist (total yards passing 464)

Most receptions in a game – Ouachita Christian Tristan Wiley (finished the game with 13 Receptions, 218 Yards, 2 TD’s)

There has only been 4 games over 100+ in the history of the Prep Classic – OCS vs CBA combined for 103 points for the game

Most combined yards for the game – 1,036 Total Yards

Most Outstanding Player of the Game – Calvary Baptist Academy Junior QB Landry Lyddy who finished the night with 4 TD’s (54.39,31 and 32 Yards; 26-36 for 464 yards; 72.2% Completion Rate)

Carencro Bears vs Edna Karr Cougars – 4A State Championship Game: 35-19 Carencro wins 4A State Championship Game 

Since last season lost in the Quarterfinal round against Warren Easton, the Carencro Bears had one thing on their minds, get to the State Championship Game in 2020.  That was the mindset in June of 2020.  Through the high and lows of the pandemic they succeeded.  Not only did they make it to the Championship Game, they also unseated the four time reigning champions in 4A the Edna Karr Cougars to win their first state championship game since 1992.

Most Outstanding Player of the Game – Carencro –  Kendrell Williams (Univ of Louisiana Commit, Sr. RB) 22 Carries, 139 Yards, 1 TD

Most Outstanding Player of the Game – Edna Karr – Aaron Anderson 2022 #LSU WR commit 3 TD’s, 7 Receptions, 172 Yards

Traylon “Popcorn” Prejean 25 Carries 115 Yards

Tavion Faulk passed for 104 Yards and 1 TD

December 30th 2020:

Madison Prep Chargers vs (1) Union Parish 3A State Championship Game

Madison Prep took a charging lead and did not stop.  At halftime the Chargers lead the Farmers 30-0.

This continued to the second half until a weather delayed stop the game with 3:20 left on the clock and the Chargers leading 44-0.  Once the weather cleared, they teams came back out on the field and Madison Prep went on to secure their first state title by a final score of 50-0

The Chargers were lead by junior quarterback Zeon Chriss, who accounted for 328 yards and four touchdowns for the game.

The Farmers struggled to get the ball down the field and in the endzone due to the hard hitting and aggressive defense of Madison Prep.

Leading Rusher in Louisiana, Sophomore Trey Holly has be the offensive leader for the Farmers with 114 Yards rushing in the game.

Most Outstanding Player of the Game for Madison Prep – Zeon Chriss (2022 QB 6’2″ 197)

Alexandria Sr. High Trojans vs Acadiana Wreckin’ Rams 5A State Championship Game

Acadiana defeated Alexandria 35-34 in a thrilling win to capture the second straight 5A Title.

ASH senior DB C.J. Kittling was named as the game’s Most Outstanding Player with 14 tackles, 1 FF, 1 FR
