Week 3 Game Of The Week – Dunham Tigers host St. Charles Catholic Comets
Two late quarter interceptions propelled the St. Charles Catholic Comets over the Dunham Tigers in Friday night’s game at Central High.
It was a back and forth affair all night as both the Comets and the Tigers defense put up big plays and pivotal stops to get their offenses back on the field.
St. Charles Catholic would get in the endzone first with a burst up the middle for 33 yards by senior running back Skyler Edwards at the 3:22 mark of the 1st Quarter.
The Dunham Tigers would answer with a pitch and catch of 45 yards from Elijah Haven to Richard Montgomery to tie up the game at 7 with 14 seconds left in the 1st Qtr.
Dunham would then take their first lead when Elijah Haven would find Jarvis Washington Jr. over the middle. Washington went up with a high point catch and then fought his way into the endzone with 7 seconds left in the first half. 14-7 would be your halftime score, Dunham with the lead.
St. Charles Catholic would come out from the half and put the ball in the endzone with 3:25 left in the 3rd quarter to tie up the game at 14 all. Edward’s would take the ball from the 1 and bulldoze his way through the pile.
The game would see the teams tied until the 6:17 mark of the 4th quarter when the field would quickly turn in the favor of the Comets, after two interceptions by Dunham’s quarterback Elijah Haven. The first interception and pick six would come at the 6:17 mark of the 4th quarter (21-14 St. Charles Catholic) and then at the 5:48 mark Haven would throw his second interception that would be returned for a touchdown to put the Comets up 27-14.
The Tigers would get the ball back and with three plays, including a 58 yard run by Haven, Elijah Haven would find Trevor Haman on a 23 yard pass play to close the gap and bring the Tigers to within 6, 27-21 with 4:37 left in the game.
The Comets would then chew up the clock and despite a defensive stop by the Tigers, the Comets would eat up 14 more seconds on the clock with two illegal formation penalties when forced to punt.
The Tigers would take the ball with 30 seconds left on their own 24. They made it to the 15 yard line but just short of a touchdown as the clock ran out.
The Comets were lead by senior running back Skyler Edwards who put up 141 yards on 38 carries, two touchdowns.
Dunham Tigers Elijah Haven would end the night with 15 of 28 passing for 329 yards, and 3 touchdowns. Haven also added 114 yards rushing on 23 carries.
Jarvis Washington Jr., South Alabama Commit, had six catches for 141 yards.
